Football fans the world over have been treated to an exceptional World Cup in Brazil, filled with exciting games, incredible goals, and the antics of one serial biter. Over the course of the tournament, we made sure footie fans could sink their teeth into some delicious cuisine while cheering on their teams at Mississauga Celebration Square.
The public gathering space in the heart of Mississauga invited us and a few other outstanding food trucks to set up shop during their World Cup screenings over the last several weeks. We, of course, were more than happy to oblige. Not only for the chance to serve up our signature dishes, but also to be a part the wonderful atmosphere of an excitable crowd rising and falling with every kick of the ball.
In addition to serving our regular menu of sandwiches, tacos, poutine, and lemonade, we offered some authentic Colombian cuisine on days when Los Cafeteros took to the pitch. Whether they were cheering for Colombia or not, we had people lining up for our lechona tolimense (roast stuffed pig with yellow peas, green onions, and yellow rice) and our arepas rellenas (corn patties filled with meat and cheese). A few Per Se team members were saddened when Colombia lost to Brazil in the quarter finals, but they were still proud of the effort their squad put in, and in particular, the performance of James Rodríguez.
With the tournament now over for another four years, we can look ahead to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup right here in Canada next month, and the Women’s World Cup next summer, again right here in Canada. Of course there’s still plenty of this summer left, and our food truck will be out around the GTA at a number of other events. You don’t need football to enjoy our food, but it never hurts.
